body painting is a form of body art, and probably has been around since the dawn of civilization. Almost every tribal culture, the body painting took place during ceremonies or merely just a beauty. Then natural pigments are used clay and others.
Body painting still survives in parts of the world, and especially ‘Mehndi’, the form of body painting that uses henna dyes, is now very popular in the Western world. Henna tattoo is semi-permanent.
Since 1960, body painting has become a true art form. However, it is an endless debate on the social acceptability because body painting is almost always associated with the nudity.But there is no art without paint, of course, and you will be pleased to know that painting is limited to the guidelines: the body paint should be non-toxic and allergenic. The paint is easily washed with soap and water.
As for the henna dyes which Mehndi uses, there is a difference between synthetic black henna, henna and natural brown. The natural color of henna is completely safe when the body painting, but the synthetic black henna dye could cause allergic reactions. You should have your patch test before use in body painting.
